Welcome! This demo will give you a sneak preview of Pop Rocket's ambitious Music Video Adventure Game‚Ñ¢. Please keep in mind that although this demo is very large, it only gives you a peek at the 600+ megabytes of highly interactive media on the actual Total Distortion CD-ROM.

• 2 megabytes of FREE & AVAILABLE RAM or greater
• A Macintosh compatible CD-ROM drive
• 12" or larger color monitor set to 256 colors

THIS DEMO FOLDER CONTAINS:
1. A loud, wild, animated demonstration of the Total Distortion CD-ROM containing a sampling of simulated gameplay, a selection of interactive books from the Total Distortion library, AND a secret, hidden fun place (can you find it?).
2. Loads of screen shots & other graphics, and text information on TOTAL DISTORTION and Pop Rocket, Inc.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
1. Quit (close) all applications you may have open before opening this demo .
Even if you have plenty of RAM and a very fast machine, other applications open in the background can slow down performance and animation, so be sure to close them all.
2. (OPTIONAL) For BEST performance, make sure you have Quicktime 2.0, Sound Manager 3.0, & Multimedia Tuner installed.
If you do not already have the above installed, don't worry, we have included them on this demo disk. To install them, simply drag these two items from the Total Distortion Demo CD to your extensions folder and then restart your computer. (The extensions folder is located inside your System folder.)
To find out whether you already have Quicktime 2.0 and Sound Manager 3.0 installed, look in your extensions folder within your System folder. If you have System 7.5, or you have installed Apple's System Update 3.0, then you will not need to install these items.
If you do not have room on your hard drive to install QuickTime, you can still use the demo without it, but it will not play as fast.
ADDITIONAL DIRECTIONS FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE:
1. For best results, drag the Total Distortion Demo application to your hard drive.
(This will only require about 1 meg space on your hard drive)

2. Select "Get Info" from the File menu, and set application memory.
Set the preferred size to the maximum amount of free RAM you have minus 150 K. Thus, if you have 4550K RAM free, set the Total Distortion Demo preferred size to 4400K.

3. For optimal performance use System 7 with a minimum of 5 megabytes of RAM.
The Total Distortion Demo is a very demanding application and performance will depend upon CPU speed and CD-ROM access time. In extremely low memory situations, (2 Megs or less), run the Total Distortion Demo under System 6.07 without MultiFinder.
VIEWING THE DEMO:
To start the demo, double click on the TD demo icon. (To fast forward through the initial start-up screens click anywhere in the demo window.)
When the demo menu appears you can choose one of four options - "Total Distortion Snapshots!", "Show Me the Game!", "Give Me More Information, Please!", and "Quit This Demo Now!". If you don't choose any of these options, the presentation will go into “auto-demo” mode beginning with the Total Distortion Snapshots section.
Within each section, you can advance through the TOTAL DISTORTION Demo manually or you can let the demo run by itself.
To view the demo manually, click on the screen at any time. A navigation tool will pop up in the lower right corner of the screen. To advance to the next section simply click on the right arrow. To return to the previous section, click on the left arrow. To return to the main menu, click on the red "M" in the middle of the navigation tool.
If left unattended, this presentation will go into “auto-demo” mode. You can resume manual control at any time by clicking your mouse anywhere on the open demo window.

You will navigate to far-out locations where you'll interact with radical adolescents, underground punks, metal heads and Gothic mutants.
TOTAL DISTORTION is also a game that tests your creativity, powers of observation, curiosity, and business savvy. Take on the role of an “Adventurous Music Video Producer” who travels to another plane of existence in search of fresh material. After gathering songs, video clips, and sound effects, you’ll need to create music videos. Television producers back on planet earth are eagerly awaiting to make a deal with you- IF they like your work.
You’ll beam music videos back to planet earth and your bank account will grow. If you fail, the power will burn out in your “Personal Media Tower,” the food supply will dry up, and you’ll be stranded in the Distortion Dimension! The gaming system within Total Distortion is unique, rewarding creativity and intellect with fame and fortune. Games are user configurable, you can set the goal, danger, and difficulty levels.
